Turck Minifast Connection for Class 1, Div 2 Hazardous Areas

Turck Minifast Connection for Class 1, Div 2 Hazardous Areas

  • The limited number of electrical connections on the market can make installing Class 1, Div 2 pressure transducers a frustrating endeavor.
  • The Turck Minifast is now able to be used in these types of hazardous area installations.
  • Turck Minifast enables quick installation without the use of a conduit and offers a minimum IP66 rating.

Installing pressure transducers in Class I, Division 2 hazardous locations can be a frustrating experience due to the limits of electrical connection options available. For Class I, Division 2 Non-Incendive installations, pressure transducers commonly offer a conduit connection and integral cable. While this is a reliable installation method, connecting and routing conduit piping over the instrument cable can be cumbersome. This is especially true when working with long lengths of cable or when a pressure transducer needs removal for calibration or for exchange with another transducer. In an effort to simplify this process, we now offer the Turck Minifast integral connector on all Class I, Division 2 model families including the CS50CS51, and CS54

The Turck Minifast allows for quick installation via a thread connection and does not require the use of a conduit. In addition to making installation simpler, the Minifast connector is a high strength, robust connection option that offers a minimum IP66 rating. Please note that IP rating of the transducer will depend on the model number configuration. Contact us for more information.

Using the Turck Minifast Connector for Class 1, Div 2 Pressure Transducers

Three components are necessary to maintain the Class I, Division 2 hazardous location certifications on Core Sensors products:

  1. Pressure transducer with a Turck Minifast electrical connection
  2. CSA Division 2 approval Turck Minifast cordset
  3. Turck Lokfast guard – this requires the use of a tool for removal and reminds the user to disconnect power before servicing

How to Install Pressure Transducers with the Mini-Fast

We are able to provide all of the above components, delivering a complete installation package! Assembling these three components can be completed in 2 easy steps:

Step 1: Attach the Turck Minifast cordset to the integral Minifast connector on the pressure transducer via the threaded coupling nut. Hand tight is sufficient.

Both connectors on the pressure transducer and cordset feature polarization to prevent incorrect connection. Align the indentations and press together firmly.

Thread on the coupling nut until hand tight.

Step 2: Install the Lokfast guard over the threaded connection between the pressure transducer and cordset. While doing so, ensure the arrow on the Lokfast guard is pointing TOWARDS the pressure transducer. Close until you hear a click. Once you’ve done this, assembly is then complete.

Disassembly: In order to disassemble, first you will need to use a tool such as a flat-head screwdriver to remove the Lokfast guard. Then, place the tip of the screwdriver as shown in the below photo and depress the locking mechanism. While depressing, pull the Lokfast guard apart and remove. Reverse the previous steps for the remaining components.
