Pump Monitoring and Protection

• Pump monitoring is critical due to issues that can arise from corrosion, vibration, electromagnetic interference, and more.
• Rugged industrial switches can be integrated into the process to protect pumps from burning out or becoming damaged.
• The Kayden CLASSIC 800 Series provides automatic switching on/off, alarms, and other functions to make operating pumps extremely easy.

Switches provide a rugged and reliable means for pump monitoring and protection. They allow automation stopping of the pump (motor) when the inlet is dry or empty. Then, flow switches can automatically restart the pump when the flow of the process material restores. There is also a need for an alarm when blockages occur in the pipeline. Another need is to react to changes in the flow rate and temperature.

Problems with Pump Monitoring

It is difficult to find one device that can be configured for a wide variety of flow conditions and will not require frequent maintenance. To perform well in this application, the flow switch must resist failures from:

• corrosion and/ or sludging
• vibration
• electromagnetic interference from motors, etc.
• difficult and/or controlled access points limit monitoring and daily maintenance
• water contamination – feed water and cooling water often contain high mineral content and sediment

Using Rugged Switches for Pump Protection

Every Kayden CLASSIC 800 Series Thermal Dispersion Flow, Level, Interface, Temperature Switch and Transmitter is configurable by the user for flow, level, interface, and/or temperature for air, gases, liquids, or slurries. Users can configure the digital electronics for each application, which are 100% interchangeable. Best of all, it’s ethernet enabled, which means it can communicate via Modbus or other protocols.

• The Kayden CLASSIC 800 Series may be set to alarm via either of the two (2) independent relay contacts and/or a 4-20 mA analog output, on both flow (increasing) or no flow (decreasing).
• The heater power, range limits, and relay set point(s) can configure independently and incrementally. In addition, it allows quick and easy adjustment via the display panel push buttons (no trim pots)! Thus, it allows the CLASSIC 800 Series Switches to achieve application-specific response times and to eliminate nuisance alarms.
