AnaCONT Analytical Transmitter for pH, ORP, Dissolved Oxygen

AnaCONT Analytical Transmitter for pH, ORP, Dissolved Oxygen

The AnaCONT Series are  two-wire, compact, liquid analytical transmitters with a graphical display that is designed to measure pH [model LEP], redox potential (ORP) [model LER], or dissolved oxygen [model LED]. These transmitters, from Nivelco, are capable of measuring these values in aqueous solutions or other liquids such as highly alkaline mediums, suspensions, contaminated fluids, or emulsions. Depending on the choice of sensor, the AnaCONT Series can measure: pH value (hydrogen ion concentration) [model LEP], oxidation reduction potential (ORP) reducing and oxidizing capability [model LER], or dissolved oxygen content [model LED] of process water, wastewater, surface water, ground water, or drinking water. For measuring conductivity, see AnaCONT model LCK.

Description

The AnaCONT Series (LEP, LER, LED) of compact instrumentation features a liquid analytical transmitter that is suitable for high precision measurement and transmission of acidity or alkalinity. Depending on the choice of sensor, the AnaCONT Series from Nivelco can measure: pH value (hydrogen ion concentration) [model LEP], oxidation reduction potential (ORP) reducing and oxidizing capability [model LER], or dissolved oxygen content [model LED] of process water, wastewater, surface water, ground water, or drinking water.

These measurements can be widely used in industrial systems and are of great relevance to many critical processes. In the field of environmental protection or sewage treatment, the AnaCONT Series is suitable for measuring the concentration of hazardous substances (chromium or cyanide). In the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, high precision measurement has utmost importance in the aspect of the technology (e.g. solvent feed). And in many cases, it is quality specification standard.

  • explosion-proof models available

Using the AnaCONT LEP for pH Measurement

Continuous measurement of acidity (pH < 7) and of basicity (pH > 7) in liquids can be performed by the help of AnaCONT transmitters. The necessary feeding of chemicals and other technological functions can be controlled by the processed measured values. The potential difference between the submerged measuring and reference probe generates a voltage proportional to the concentration of the hydrogen ion in the measured fluid.

This voltage is evaluated by the signal processing electronic module of the instrument. Based on the signals of the submerged probe and the temperature sensor, the smart signal processing electronic module calculates a pH value normalized to 25°C and generates a proportional output signal. The long term stability and accuracy of the measurement requires a periodic calibration of the sensors using the standard buffer solutions.

The pH electrode is immersed into a liquid to measure its voltage value, which is proportional to the hydrogen ion concentration of the liquid.

  • 0mV output at neutral pH value (pH = 7.00)
  • positive voltage output in acidic liquids (pH < 7)
  • negative voltage output in alkaline liquids (pH > 7)
  • total measuring range is 0 to 14 pH
  • -59.16 mV/pH (Nernst potential) slope at 25˚C
  • temperature dependency of the Nernst potential is -0.001984 mV/˚C

AnaCONT LER Analytical Transmitter for Redox Potential Measurement

Similarly to the pH measurement, the measurement of the redox potential (ORP) is based on the potential difference between measuring and reference probes. Oxidation or reduction occurs on the platinum surface of the measuring probe. Redox potential is a parameter that indicates the sum of oxidants and reducers in the measured medium. The output signals of the probes are processed by the electronic unit, which converts them into a proportional output signal. In order to get the desired medium parameters, the reduction of liquids or feeding of suitable oxidant is executed based on the formerly processed values.

  • negative voltage output in liquids with reduction potential
  • positive voltage output in liquids with oxidation potential
  • output voltage is equal to the redox potential (according to the Nernst equation)
  • pH independent measurement with certain types

To achieve reliable measurement and accuracy, these electrodes have to be thoroughly checked before installation and during usage periodically. The time interval between two calibrations depends on the application and conditions where the ORP probes are used.

AnaCONT LED for Dissolved Oxygen (DO) Measurement

The dissolved oxygen (DO) measurement gives the quantity of dissolved oxygen gas in the liquid in ppm or mg/l values. The sensor uses an oxygen-permeable membrane immersed in the liquid to provide an electronic signal proportional to the oxygen concentration. The intelligent electronics calculate and transmit the DO value, normalized to 25°C, on the basis of the output current of the DO sensor and the potential of the temperature sensor immersed in the medium.
