Description
The PR 6185 Loop Powered Isolator, from PR electronics, provides galvanic isolation for analog current signals without needing a separate power supply. It supports 1‑, 2‑, or 4‑channel versions, each channel slimline (<6 mm width), making it space‑efficient. It loads the loop with a maximum drop of 1.8 VDC, thus protecting the signal source. Input and output are floating and also isolated from each other. The device includes over-voltage protection and polarity error protection.
- 1-, 2-, and 4-channel galvanic isolation/separation of analog current signals.
- Elimination of ground loops as well as measurement of floating signals.
- A competitive choice in terms of both price and technology for galvanic isolation of current signals to SCADA systems or PLC equipment.
- Especially useful in applications necessitating an unproblematic transmission of current signals according to NAMUR (sensor error detection).
- Slimline channel width of less than 6 mm
- No separate supply necessary, low response time, high noise suppression
PR 6185 Loop Powered Isolator
The PR 6185 Loop Powered Isolator limits output voltage to 15 VDC. It also demonstrates high accuracy (better than 0.1% of selected range) and low response time (<4 ms for 0‑90% rise). Noise suppression is strong, signal/noise ratio is at least 60 dB for 0‑100 kHz. EMC immunity influence is under ±0.5% of span. In addition, the PR 6185 mounts horizontally or vertically on standard 35 mm DIN rail; up to 168 channels per meter fit when units mount adjacent.
- Isolating current loops to prevent ground loops or interference in large SCADA or PLC systems.
- Measuring floating signals where sensors are not referenced to common ground in industrial plants.
- Environments following NAMUR standards where error detection in sensor signals is necessary.
- Applications in chemical, oil & gas, water/wastewater treatment, as well as any factory automation setting requiring reliable, galvanically isolated signal transmission.
Technical Characteristics
- PR 6185 is uses power from the measured signal and loads the loop with maximum 1.8 VDC.
- This module protects the input against over-voltage and polarity error.
- The drop voltage for each channel can be calculated according to the following expression: Vdrop = 1.8 + (Iout. * Rload.
- The output is voltage-limited to 15 VDC.
- Inputs and outputs are floating as well as galvanically separated.
Mounting / Installation
- Mounts vertically or horizontally on a DIN rail. As the devices can mount without distance between neighboring units, up to 168 channels can mount per meter.
