Anybus Quality Testing of Industrial IoT Devices

  • Anybus offers IoT communication devices used in manufacturing environments where quality, longevity, and reliability are key
  • Products pass through Anybus Quality Lab to test radar, Bluetooth, WiFi, and other short-range radio equipment before going into field
  • Product Designers adhere to strict guidelines before launching products and test for voltage shocks, temperature controls, and signal disturbances

Knowledge and experience are what allow us to improve our IoT devices and test them for how they will be used in the field. With our focus on quality, design, testing, and usability, the Anybus Quality Lab is an important part of ensuring the reliability of our products now and in the future.

Products that are Built for Industrial Applications

With an Anybus connectivity solution, you can enable automation that reduces downtime and increases output. This is achieved through an ongoing process of improving, testing, and anticipating the needs of our users. That is what we do at the Anybus Quality Lab.

Anybus products are used in manufacturing environments where quality, longevity, and reliability are key. We work according to the ISO 9001 certified quality system and ensure our products are robust and capable of operating in industrial applications.

Common challenges for an electronic device in industrial applications are interference, surging, cable disturbance, and radiation disturbances. Hardware tests are meant to test conditions on the hardware of the product as software is running. The goal is for the product to continuously run when we have completed the test. These tests must pass industrial standards before Anybus products go into the field.

Industrial Data Logging and Connectivity

At Anybus, we enable valuable data and insights from industrial equipment allowing our customers to increase productivity and sustainability. With more than 7 million installations at companies such as Siemens, Rockwell Automation, Schneider Electrics, Toshiba, Sony, Panasonic, ABB, Hitachi, we are sure we can find a solution to your connectivity needs. Get in touch with us, and we’ll tell you more about the Anybus solutions and technology.

“If we find anything wrong, we fix it, and test it again. I think that the benefit to having this lab is to understand our product. We can test the filtering, the protection, and how to install it. That’s a very important thing to know, for example, do we need to have shielded cables, or does it withstand the test without shielding cables. That’s the thing that we’re testing here.”

Anybus Certifications Facility Tests Radar, Bluetooth, WiFi, Radio Instruments

Anybus products go through substantial testing in a local facility at Halmstad University before being entered into the field. In this video we give you a look into the facility and give an overview of the industrial testing that takes place there.

The Semianechoic chamber available at the facility that allows engineers to test radar, Bluetooth, WiFi, ZigBee, and other short-range radio equipment. This room is sealed to ensure no outside factors impact the product beyond the test.

The value of the testing is to make sure the device is robust and can handle electromagnetic environments. We also want to test to make sure it does not disturb other products around it in the field.

Anybus Onsite Testing and Quality Lab

The Anybus Quality Lab was built with four things in mind, design, testing, usability, and quality of our products. In this facility located inside of the HMS Networks headquarters, Anybus products are tested to ensure that they meet industrial classifications and our customer’s needs.

Communication Instrumentation Quality and Design

At Anybus, our focus when it comes to quality is building and sustaining relationships with our customers by assessing, anticipating, and fulfilling their needs with our products. It’s about making sure the product works for the customer first.

The designers have the ability and access in the lab to the equipment needed for testing such as voltage shocks, temperature controls, and signal disturbances. Each designer has a list of testing guidelines they adhere to before any product is launched.

Quality Testing of Industrial IoT Devices

Other companies might achieve matching compliance levels, but we go beyond this. By having a testing lab during the design process allows quick turnaround, testing for customer requests, and more product updates. The tests are not just done when the product is being prepared for a release but throughout the designing process.

IIoT Device Usability and Experience

At Anybus, we keep a record of any returns or broken products and test the conditions that caused these errors. With over 7,000,000 products successfully delivered, Anybus has been a source of quality products for years with a guarantee to resolve defects in material, design, or manufacture free of charge.

Our experience has made us experts in the operational conditions for electronic devices in industrial environments, which means that we can focus on designing the ideal hardware for these type of applications and focus on ensuring it can withstand a right level of disturbance.

Industrial Networking Hardware Tested for Security

Security is an ever ongoing process and at Anybus we continually test our products to ensure they will remain secure. The Anybus CompactCom 40-series products are a great example of this. This embedded product line is tested to check resistance against packet storms, known security holes, and malformed packets.

To prevent unauthorized or malicious code from being downloaded, the CompactCom 40-series only accepts firmware that has been digitally signed by Anybus. The included FPGA design is encrypted. Some of the methods and tools we use in different development projects are Achilles, Netload, and Nessus. Using our own technology, we are in full control of the design, allowing us to optimize performance and fix possible vulnerabilities easily.

Quality and Sustainability Goal at HMS Networks

As a manufacturing company, HMS Networks works to continually decrease the effect on the environment, both by making our own products as energy efficient as possible, but also by choosing environmentally smart ways of working. We also work to make continual improvements to our products and our quality testing.
