PR 3186 2-wire Current Isolator / Transmitter Isolator
Upgrade your measurement and control systems with the PR 3186 2‑Wire Transmitter Isolator. This compact loop‑powered module isolates your 4‑20 mA current loops, protects against ground loops and electrical surges, and delivers exceptional accuracy (better than 0.05 % of span) with fast <5 ms response. With variants for passive or active inputs, this slim 6.1 mm unit installs densely and performs in tough industrial, marine, or hazardous locations. It draws power from the loop itself and meets strict safety and isolation standards—making it a smart choice for reliable signal integrity and system protection.
- Loop‑powered with no external supply needed; wide 6‑35 VDC supply range
- High isolation (2.5 kVAC), superb accuracy & low voltage drop
- Fast response, slim form factor, ideal for dense DIN rail mounting
Description
The PR 3186 is a slim, high‑performance 2‑wire transmitter / current isolator that provides galvanic isolation and 1:1 signal conversion of standard current loop signals. Available in two variants, the 3186A, from PR electronics, handles passive input signals, and the 3186B accommodates active input signals. Both models draw power directly from the host current loop (no external power supply necessary) in addition to supporting a wide loop supply range from 6 to 35 VDC.
- 1 or 2 channel 2-wire transmitter isolator / current isolator
- 1:1 conversion in the range 3.5-23 mA
- Low channel voltage drop as well as a fast response time < 5 ms
- Excellent accuracy, better than 0.05%
- Slimline 6 mm housing
- DIN-rail mounting with up to 330 channels per meter
- Extended operating temperature range from -13 to 158˚F (-25 to 70˚C.
PR 3186 2-wire Transmitter Isolator / Current Isolator
Accuracy surpasses 0.05% of span, with response time under 5 ms, as well as signal‐to‐noise ratio better than 60 dB. Isolation withstands 2.5 kVAC test voltage, safeguarding against interference and also eliminating ground loops. The device fits in a slim 6.1 mm housing, thus allowing dense mounting on DIN-rails — up to 163 units per meter.
- 3186A is a 1:1 output loop-powered 2-wire transmitter isolator that excites and also measures passive input signals.
- 3186B is a 1:1 output loop-powered 2-wire current isolator that measures active input signals.
- A very competitive choice in terms of both price as well as technology for galvanic isolation.
- Provides surge suppression and also protects control systems from transients and noise.
- 3186 eliminates ground loops in addition to being suitable for measuring floating signals.
- The device can mount in Safe area or in Zone 2 and Cl. 1 Div 2. area.
Technical Characteristics
- 3186 receives power by the host loop voltage.
- Wide supply range from 6-35 V.
- Low input to output voltage drop type. 2.5 V (3186A).
- Low input drops ≤ 3 V (3186B), even when no loop power is applied to the output terminals.
- Excellent conversion accuracy, better than 0.05% in the range of 3.8-20.5 mA.
- The signal range is 3.5-23 mA, which means that the PR 3186 is NAMUR NE43 compliant.
- Inputs and outputs are floating and also galvanically separated.
- High galvanic isolation of 2.5 kVAC.
- Fast response time < 5 ms.
- Excellent signal/noise ratio > 60 dB.
Applications
- Use in industrial automation to isolate and condition 4‑20 mA signals from field transmitters before feeding into PLCs, DCS, or SCADA systems.
- Ideal for hazardous or explosive environments (Zone 2 / Division 2) as well as marine installations where safety and signal integrity are critical.
- Perfect for retrofit or panel upgrades where space is limited but high accuracy in addition to fast response are necessary.
- Useful in oil & gas, chemical processing, water & wastewater treatment facilities, or any environment with electrical noise or long cable runs.
