OPTIWAVE 1400 Radar Level Transmitter

OPTIWAVE 1400 Radar Level Transmitter

The OPTIWAVE 1400 is a radar (FMCW) level transmitter for liquids in water and wastewater applications. It is ideal for continuous level measurement of water in open channels such as springs, rivers, lakes, sea, rainwater, as well as measurement of wastewater, sludge, or other liquids in storage applications. The OPTIWAVE 1400, from KROHNE, is a powerful, yet cost-effective alternative to pulse radar and ultrasonic level transmitters.

  • continuous, non-contact level measurement in tanks, pumping stations, open channels, etc.
  • robust stainless steel (316L) design
  • waterproof (IP66/68 / NEMA 4X/6)
  • 24 GHz radar, polypropylene Drop antenna
  • measuring range: 0 to 20 meters (66 feet)

Description

The OPTIWAVE 1400 is a 2-wire 24 GHz radar level transmitter (FMCW) for liquids in water and wastewater applications. It is ideal for continuous, non-contact level measurement of water from springs, rivers, lakes, or the sea, as well as rainwater, wastewater, sludge, or other liquids in storage applications. This radar level transmitter features a robust 316L stainless steel housing and comes with an IP68 / NEMA 4X/6 rating for use in open air installations prone to flooding.

Its proven PP (polypropylene) drop antenna, with the smallest beam angle (8˚) on the market, guarantees accurate and reliable level measurement of liquids despite condensation, turbulent surfaces, or foam. This makes it a powerful, yet cost-effective alternative to pulse radar and ultrasonic level transmitters. The OPTIWAVE 1400, from KROHNE, offers thread as well as low-pressure flange connections and various other accessories.

Features of the OPTIWAVE 1400 Radar Level Transmitter*

  • 2-wire, loop-powered, with HART 7
  • FMCW technology for greater resolution, just like the new 80 GHz generation
  • its proven polypropylene Drop antenna is insensitive to condensation as well as deposits
  • narrow beam angle (8˚) for a sharp focus on the medium
  • TBM (Tank Bottom Management) ensures reliable measurement, even in empty tanks:
    • dedicated algorithms to filter and compensate for irregular radar wave reflections that occur at tank bottom when the vessel is empty
    • also allows for quick and easy commissioning of tanks regardless of size, material, or geometry
  • ±2 mm (±0.08″) accuracy
  • maintenance-free concept
  • installation and operation is simple, safe, as well as secure
  • extensive choice of accessories
  • PACTware, HART DD, and HART DTM – free of charge with full functionality
  • 3-year warranty
  • hazardous area approvals

Common Applications of a Radar Level Transmitter

  • liquid level measurement during extraction, transport, storage, and also distribution of water from springs, rivers, lakes, or the sea
  • level measurement in rainwater basins
  • open-channel flow measurement
  • level measurement of water, wastewater, sludge, as well as other liquids in storage applications
  • level monitoring in wastewater pumping stations
  • floodwater alarm
  • level measurement of liquids in plastic tanks (e.g. IBC)
