FlowDDE is a Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) server, an easy connection between Windows applications and digital Bronkhorst instruments. DDE provides a basic level of interprocess communication between Windows applications. By using DDE commands, sent by software to FlowDDE, data can be sent to or requested from digital flow instrumentation. FlowDDE is a Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) server that creates an easy connection between Windows applications and digital flow instrumentation. Dynamic Data Exchange provides a basic level of interprocess communication between Windows applications.

By using DDE commands from software to FlowDDE, users can send or request data from digital instruments with a connection to FLOW-BUS. FlowDDE is a flow control software that handles all communication to the flow instrumentation and also provides data to the application.

Common Uses of Dynamic Data Exchange Programs

Flow Instrumentation Supported by FlowDDE

FlowDDE works with all FLOW-BUS instruments and instrumentation with RS232 communication, but there are some limitations:

  • RS232 / FLOW-BUS interface: 16-bit is not supported and 32-bit firmware ≥ 4.09 only
  • digital mass flow meters / controllers without RS232 communication: firmware ≥ V5.xx only
  • digital readout control modules (E-7000): firmware ≥ V3.xx only
RS232 and FLOW-BUS Interface

RS232 and FLOW-BUS are interfaces between the FLOW-BUS and the RS232 V24 serial (computer) port. It is either available as a separate enclosed unit with a FLOW-BUS connector and a RS232 connector or it can be available as an integral 14TE module. The converter offers communication with a baud rate up to 38400 baud. Additionally, communication software support is available, and the communication settings are: 38400, n, 8, 1.

Multibus Support

The RS232 interface on a multibus instrument connects to any RS232 V24 serial (computer) port. Be sure to follow the hook-up diagram. Bronkhorst also offers special cables for communication, separating the RS232 lines from the power and analog input and output. Additionally, on the 9-pin male D-sub connector of the instrument, RX and TX are available on pin 6 and pin 1.

Serial RS232 communication on a multibus instrument with RS232 functions as a FLOW-BUS system with one instrument and a FLOW-BUS or RS232 interface. In case a FLOW-BUS fieldbus connection is present, other instruments connected to the FLOW-BUS can be communicated with as well.
