How To Improve Your Gas Chromatography Analysis

What is Gas Chromatography?

Gas Chromatography is a commonly used type of Chromatography in analytical chemistry. This is a very effective practice when you need to separate substances of analytical interest. Gas Chromatography uses chromatographic techniques when applying a gas as the mobile phase and a solid or liquid as stationary phases. The principle of Gas Chromatography involves a controlled carrier gas stream that passes through an injector, column, and detector. Then a sample gas is injected for a short period of time, creating a gas sample plug. This is then separated into different gas components across the column. They become visible as peaks during detection.

Chart of Gas Chromatography

The goal of a gas chromatography analysis is to identify and monitor the concentration of gas components in an analytical gas sample. This helps identify a need for gas flow or pressure control. If you examine the picture below, you will see a diagram displaying the principle of gas chromatography. In the diagram, you will see a gas flow controller for the carrier gas stream (red) and a pressure controller for the split flow stream (yellow)

The Gas Chromatography Analysis Process

The Gas Chromatography Analysis Process

A Gas Chromatography user has a list of expectations, such as reliability, precision, sensitivity, and a reasonable time frame, etc. Our partners at Bronkhorst fully understand these demands and have been developing their solutions to meet the top Gas Chromatograph manufacturer standards.

What are the requirements?

When examining what is required to improve Gas Chromatograph users’ analysis? We believe Space-saving solutions that utilize Bronkhorst instruments with analog or digital (bus) communications. Furthermore, compact modules that have been thoroughly tested for plug and play integration.

Important Topics

  • Low cost of ownership
  • Compact
  • Simple integration
  • Pre-tested “Plug and Play” units

Process Solution

Chemical plants frequently use analyzers to monitor process parameters in real-time. They use an analysis technique that allows qualitative and quantitative characterization of a sample, which is then injected through a flow of carrier gas. This gas flow is controlled using a high accuracy Bronkhorst mass flow controller (IQ+FLOW series). The sample goes through the stationary phase where analytes elute at different times. They are then detected and will generate different peaks. Bronkhorst offers space-saving instruments that have been tested and proven to be efficient.
